Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about FreeLumin's features, privacy protections, academic verification, and digital passes.
General & Pricing
QIs FreeLumin really free to use?
Yes, FreeLumin has a free-forever tier designed for event organizers, college societies, creators, and small teams. You can create unlimited forms, collect up to 1,000 responses per form, export CSV/Excel files, and issue digital passes without paying anything or entering credit card details.
QDo respondents need an account or Google login to fill out forms?
No! Unlike Google Forms, which forces respondents to log into a Google account if the organizer wants to prevent duplicate entries, FreeLumin allows open submissions while using cryptographic tokens and unique field constraints to prevent duplicates without requiring login.
QCan I use FreeLumin for commercial events and client surveys?
Absolutely. FreeLumin forms are clean, professional, and unbranded by default. You can configure custom themes, brand colors, fonts, and redirects for any commercial or non-profit event.
University & Event Features
QHow does strict university roll number validation work?
FreeLumin features native 12-digit university roll number validation. The engine strictly checks that inputs match exact numeric 12-digit formats (e.g. 260010100100) and rejects non-numeric characters, shortened numbers, or fake entries on the client and server.
QWhat is a digital confirmation ticket pass?
Upon successful submission, respondents receive a clean digital event pass with a unique verifiable ticket number (e.g., PASS-HACK-4921) and submission timestamp. Respondents can print the pass or save it on their smartphone for desk check-ins at hackathons, conferences, and college fests.
QHow does one-click duplicate entry prevention work?
You can flag any question (such as Roll Number, Email Address, or Phone Number) as "Unique" in the form builder. FreeLumin checks previous submissions in real-time and prevents duplicate registrations with that identifier, eliminating manual spreadsheet deduplication.
QCan I collect payment receipts or UTR transaction numbers?
Yes! You can add a short text field for the 12-digit Bank UTR / UPI Transaction ID, mark it as required and unique to prevent reusing the same payment screenshot/UTR, and add an image upload field for payment verification.
Response Editing & Resiliency
QCan respondents edit their answers after submitting?
Yes! FreeLumin generates a secure, cryptographic edit token attached directly to the confirmation pass. If a respondent discovers a typo in their name or course, they can click "Edit your response" to update their submission in-place without generating duplicate entries.
QWhat happens if a respondent loses their internet connection while filling a form?
FreeLumin has built-in offline draft resilience. Answers are automatically encrypted and saved into local browser storage as the respondent types. If their device restarts or Wi-Fi drops, their answers are instantly restored upon reopening the link.
QCan I close registrations automatically after reaching a specific response count?
Yes. In form settings under Schedule & Caps, you can set a response limit (e.g., 200 participants) and schedule an opening and closing date/time. The form automatically closes and displays your custom closed message once the limit is hit.
Privacy, Security & Data Ownership
QWhat is Anonymous Mode in FreeLumin?
When you enable Anonymous Mode in your form settings, FreeLumin explicitly strips all technical telemetry. Our servers will NOT record the respondent’s IP address, IP hash, or browser user agent. This makes FreeLumin ideal for sensitive whistleblowing, anonymous employee feedback, and student surveys.
QWho owns the collected responses and form data?
You retain 100% full ownership and copyright of your forms and all submitted responses. We never sell, rent, or monetize your data with third-party advertisers. You can stream download all responses to CSV or Excel at any time or hard-delete them with one click.
QIs FreeLumin compliant with GDPR and India’s DPDP Act 2023?
Yes. We adhere strictly to data minimization principles, support respondent rectification rights, provide data export capabilities, and partner only with trusted subprocessors (Brevo for transactional OTP emails and Google for single sign-on).
Comparison with Other Form Builders
QWhy should I choose FreeLumin over Google Forms?
Google Forms has a dated purple aesthetic, requires Google account sign-ins for one-response rules, lacks native 12-digit university roll checks, and provides no confirmation passes. FreeLumin provides modern themes, self-service editing, instant ticket passes, offline autosave, and optional Anonymous Mode.
QHow does FreeLumin compare to Typeform?
Typeform charges over $25–$80 per month and severely limits responses on lower tiers. FreeLumin gives you modern interactive form layouts, multi-page surveys, and comprehensive validation completely free for up to 1,000 responses per form.
QHow does FreeLumin compare to Jotform?
Jotform is notoriously heavy with popups, complex menus, and low free-tier quotas (often 100 submissions). FreeLumin is ultra-lightweight, loads in under a second on mobile networks, and offers 10x the response volume on its free tier.
