Why Generic Text Fields Fail for Academic Forms
In Google Forms, form creators usually choose a plain "Short Answer" field. Even if you turn on the basic "Is Number" validation, students can still type 1, 999, or their phone number.
FreeLumin provides two layers of protection:
- Native 12-Digit University Roll Type: Automatically checks exact numeric 12-digit length on both the client (as the user types) and the backend database.
- Custom Regular Expression (Regex): Allows university organizers to enforce university-specific prefixes, year codes, and department numbers.
Copy-and-Paste Regex Patterns for Major Universities
Example: 260010190045. Requires exactly 12 numeric digits. Ideal for GJUST Hisar, MDU Rohtak, and AKTU Lucknow student enrollment IDs.
Example: 23001504012. Matches DU's standard college examination roll numbers with year prefixes (e.g. 23, 24, 25).
Example: 00116403221. Standard 11-digit enrollment format used across all IPU engineering and management colleges in Delhi NCR.
Example: student@college.ac.in. Blocks personal Gmail or Yahoo addresses and allows only registered college email accounts.
How to Apply Regex in FreeLumin Builder
- In your form editor, select the Roll Number or Short Text question.
- Open the right-hand Inspector panel.
- Under Validation Rules, paste the regex into the Pattern field.
- Provide a helpful custom error message like: "Please enter your valid 12-digit university roll number."
- Toggle Unique Constraint on so a roll number cannot be used twice.
